1998年，首次在主流厂牌旗下发行专辑《Wide Open Spaces》，即以真诚原味的乡村音乐风格、精湛纯熟的乐器演奏功力及充满特色且令人印象深刻的美丽合音，而令全美流行／乡村乐界大感惊艳的三人女子乐团Dixie Chicks，最初是于’80年代晚期由Emily Robison(斑鸠琴, dobro,合音)与Martie(小提琴，合音)这对姊妹与另两位女主唱Laura Lynch, Robin Macy所组成，团名则是灵感取自于Little Feat的经典名作《Dixie Chicken》。Dixie Chicks的草创初期是在德州达拉斯市的街头表演，但稍后便成为各类音乐演唱活动的必备名单，迅速建立她们实力派现场表演团体的名声，并在’90年代初期独立发行过《Thank Heavens For Dale Evans》、《Little Ol’Cowgirl》、《Shouldn’t A Told You That》三张专辑。然而，身为乐团灵魂人物的Emily与Martie并不以此为满。到了90年代中，她们决定重组并寻找一位新主唱─而最后这个人选就是如今的Natalie Maines，且随著Natalie的加入，也自此打开了Dixie Chicks的星运，让她们得以大显音乐才华，继而创造出一连串令人妒羡的丰功伟业。

　　截至今日，由Emily, Martie与Natalie三人所组的Dixie Chicks，虽仅分别于1998、1999发行过《Wide Open Spaces》、《Fly》两张专辑，却已在美国累积创下逾2千万张的专辑销售数字，并双双获得美国唱片工业协会所颁发的钻石奖，成为音乐史上唯一连续两张专辑销售破千万张、获得美国唱片工业协会钻石奖的女子乐团。除此之外，Dixie Chicks并已获得多座葛莱美奖，乡村音乐协会奖、告示牌音乐奖、全美音乐奖…等无数的奖座。
