      Sinead O' Connor于1966年12月8日出生于爱尔兰传统的天主教家庭，共有8位兄弟姐妹。父母离异后，辛妮德成为无家可归的流浪儿，后因偷东西被送进少管所，这段经历造就了她不阿的性格。当唱片公司的老板想要把她包装成一位娇小可爱的形象时，她一气之下剃成秃头以示抗议，没想到她却因此而名声大振，得到了“光头女歌星”的称号。集才气、灵气、狂气于一身的爱尔兰女歌手西妮德不仅能写能编，而且唱腔领域宽广，加上爱尔兰人特有的倔强和灵性，使她成为一位独具风格的惊世骇俗的摇滚女歌手，在20世纪80年代末90年代初可谓享誉全球。她是一位很出位的女歌手，当初唱片公司想把她包装成一个金发碧眼的女歌手，她却愤而操剪把自己变成了一个光头女歌手，这不啻是对传统唱片业包装、运作的一个极大讽刺和挑战。此后她的不羁性格和标志性的大光头便成了她最大的特色，而她在电视上接受采访时当众撕毁罗马教皇肖像的行为更是把这种状况推向了极端。自出道以来她便一直是一位颇受争议的女歌手。
